Performance Characteristics of DIAMONEX® AEGISGLASS® PLUS Laser Barcode Scanner Windows (PDF File) DLC-coated AEGISGLASS PLUS® can dramatically improve the lifetime, read accuracy, and read rate of laser barcode scanners. Windows in supermarket laser barcode scanners are subject to scratching and scuffing from metal cans and glass bottles. Scratched and scuffed windows scatter the laser light, resulting in poor read accuracy and read rate.
In a busy line of a grocery store (50,000 items scanned per week), an uncoated glass window typically has a productive life of about 4 weeks. DIAMONEX test results indicate AEGISGLASS PLUS® has a hundred times longer useful life than uncoated scanner glass. The diamond-like carbon surface can't be scratched by anything sold in a grocery store. Less re-scanning means reduced POS cost and happy customers. The performance characteristics of Aegisglass in laboratory simulation and in-store field testing suggests that the lifespan of Aegisglass is in excess of 5 years of continuous duty in a busy supermarket checkout lane.
